Honesty pays in hamburgers

10/11/06 Valley News Article

When 11-year-old Alex Vetter found a $10 bill at Hale Middle School near the ongoing book fair, he had a tough choice. Keep the money or turn it into lost and found.

"What if it was somebody's lunch money for the whole week?" Vetter asked.

Vetter marched into the Administration offices at Hale Middle School and turned the money into a secretary at the counter. She grinned from ear-to-ear when she heard the story.

The Hale secretary told Vetter, "You are a very generous boy." Then, she handed Vetter two gift certificates for free hamburgers at his favorite restaurant, In-N-Out Burger.

Vetter was thrilled. Now, he has advice for anyone who finds money.

"Always turn money into the office. It's the right thing to do and you might get hamburgers in return!" Vetter said with a smile.
